9 Years, 7 Months...Welcome to 4th grade!

I had my first day of 4th grade.  It was a pretty good day, but it was HOT!  I got on TV for the first time which was also the first time Ellie was on TV (for volleyball!)  The news crew came to take footage of classrooms and I just happened to be in it. After school, we went to Battle to watch Ellie play volleyball in the Jamboree.

I have been pretty crabby this month and don’t really want to do anything but play on screens.  I did get to have Autumn come over to play, but she did not spend the night.  We went to visit Nana Arden and Papa Rodney to see how they can help with rides during soccer and volleyball and to just spend some time with them before things get too busy.  I started soccer and have been up and down with how I feel about playing.  I wasn’t feeling well but I still went to school on a Thursday and Friday and then we took a Covid test.  I was positive!  I was supposed to go swimming with Avonlea, but we had to cancel that.  My cold-like symptoms went away quickly, and I enjoyed being able to take over mom and dad’s room and play on my iPad and all the screens I wanted.  They couldn’t do anything about it because everyone else tested negative!  Mom stayed home with me for two days before I could go back to school.

I started to go to some of Ellie’s volleyball games, but I am getting kind of tired of sitting in the stands.  I also get jealous that it seems like people make a bigger deal out of her playing varsity than I get for anything I do.  I think our whole family is exhausted with how much running around we have been doing, so mom and dad decided to take turns going to Ellie’s games and staying with me.  I went to part of her Hickman tournament and will go to her games in Columbia (except when I have soccer practice).  It was nice to have another day off school in the middle of September.  I had to miss Get the Scoop Night (curriculum night and ice cream) at school because of soccer practice.  Mom came to Mornings with Misses though the next day.  She also took me to Ellie’s homecoming parade (which I was not happy about!)

I had my first soccer game and we tied.  Dad couldn’t make it because he went to Ellie’s volleyball tournament, but I had quite a large fan club!  Mom, Nana Arden, Lisa, Grandma Kathy, and Grandpa Tom came!  Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Tom took Mom and me out to eat at Cheddar’s afterward.  It was really nice to be the center of attention for a change.  Mom and Dad went to my soccer game on a Monday night while Ellie was at practice. Mom and I went to Avonlea’s house to hang out.  It’s kind of nice that mom is friends with Avonlea’s mom.

We shall see the busyness that next month holds!

9 1/2 Years Old...End of summer fun!!!

This month started with more adventures in Tucson. It was so good to see Papa Rick and Nana Peggy again!  We also got to see our Uncle Sammy for the second time as well as his girlfriend Catie.  Nana Peggy took us to a Mini Museum and we go to see a lot of miniature houses, etc.  Marie and Todd and Michelle came over too one night.  We played pool volleyball with them, and I stayed in the room and read most of the time.  They were really nice, but I was more interested in my book.

The next day, we traveled by car to Puerto Penasco to Papa Rick and Nana Peggy’s Mexico house.  Even though it was cooler there, it was so humid and gross!  We went swimming in the Gulf of California the first afternoon, but it had a lot of seaweed in it and was not refreshing at all.  It was warmer than bathwater.  Mom and Dad went swimming the next morning and said it was better, but I’m glad I stayed in the air conditioning.  Later that day, we went to CEDO where they worked for over 30 years.  There was an ecohouse there that was made of tires and soda cans, a huge whale skeleton, and we saw a baby coyote that they took in to rehabilitate.  Later that hot afternoon, we went on the Mexican Rodeo Drive to go shopping.  I bought amethyst earrings and a Pokemon toy for Camille who was dog and house sitting for us.  That night, we walked around downtown like a tourist and had ice cream.  Our last day in Mexico, we drove to the estuary and had lunch.  Ellie and I were fascinated with the ground squirrels and tried to feed them.

We headed back to Tucson and enjoyed the pool that afternoon, as well as some yummy (and gigantic) pizza.  Sammy and Catie came over again.  Our last full day, we drove up Mount Lemmon and enjoyed lunch where it was 22 degrees cooler toward the top!  Papa Rick cut up a watermelon and we had a blast seeing how far we could throw the rinds!  On our last morning, we had a morning swim and lunch with Sammy and Catie.  We made it safely to the airport, but our flight was delayed.  We had to sprint through the airport and barely made our connecting flight.  When we got back to Columbia, we found that our luggage did not make it with us.  What an exciting end to our trip!

I had my last swimming lesson and really impressed Miss Corrie with how much I have improved.  I got to go swimming with Avonlea the next day and had so much fun swimming like the big girls.  Then, I had a sleepover with Autumn.  We watched a family movie (The Parent Trap).  We had a get together with dad’s family at Papa Rodney’s office to talk about our summer adventures.  Autumn came over again to play, and Leivann came another day.  It is so much fun getting together with friends!  Mom’s friend and her family came over for a BBQ one Sunday night.  She has twin 6-year-old boys, and they were rowdy!  I didn’t know what to think about them, but I was very welcoming and kind.  I had a haircut and decided on my own to get three inches cut off.  Everyone said it looked so good!

I finally got to have my days at Grandma Kathy’s! We hung out a lot at their house, but my favorite thing was when we went to Purina Farms and saw all the animals.  I love my time with Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Tom!  When Mom brought me back to Columbia, we went to the MU Black and Gold volleyball game.  I’ve decided I really don’t care to watch or play volleyball and they are making me because we got four season passes to the games.

It is almost time to go back to school.  Nana Arden came and delivered lunch or a treat a few days after Mom and Dad went back to work.  Mom took me to the Church’s swim party and I had so much fun with my friends in the (cold!) pool.  I was able to go to Meet the Teacher Night this year since I was in town.  My teacher is Mrs. Sexton and she seems great!  She likes creative ideas and even knows algebra!  I can’t wait to be challenged in math!  Our Church had a blessing of the backpack to get ready for school.  We went to Corinne’s birthday party at Papa Rodney’s office, and Ellie had Jump Start day the day before school started.  It’s happening soon!
