5 Weeks Old...Awake and Alert!

I have been so much more alert this week.  In the evenings, I either cry for a really long time for no apparent reason (Daddy thinks it is because of him!) or I stay awake and alert for a long time looking at the ceiling fan.  That is my favorite thing to do these days while I am kicking!  I have even put myself to sleep while playing on the floor several times.  Speaking of Daddy, Mommy took me to Daddy's work to visit.  Everyone thought I was great!
Not only that, but I have the best big sister in the world!  She is so patient with me and always tries to calm me down when I am upset.  She doesn't even get mad at me when I am crying during her TV shows.  I hope to be a good sister to her when I get older.

Week 4...One month old already!

How is this possible that I am a month old already?  This has been a very busy week.  Daddy was gone a couple of nights with work, so Mommy had to take care of me and Ellie all by herself.  She was worried, but I think she did a good job.  We both got fed!  Mommy took me with her for two days to curriculum writing.  She was worried about doing that too, but I did great!  In fact, I don't think I was put down for two days!  Everyone there loved me and wanted to hold me!
While we were at curriculum writing in the hotel room, I gave Mommy my first real smile.  She was so proud of me.  After that, I tried really hard to "talk" to her.  I'm starting to really interact!
I do spit up quite a bit, unlike my sister.  I think I am going to have to get the dreaded bath more often than once a week.  I just do not like to be cold!

Week 3...Growing and changing!

This has been a really cool week!  Mommy has been able to get out more, so I helped pick Ellie up from preschool.  All the kids thought I was so cute and wanted to touch me!  Ellie knew that wasn't OK because she didn't want me to get their germs.  Grandma Kathy came to visit this week too.  We spent a lot of time together.
I am a pretty good sleeper from what I hear.  I usually only wake up every 3 hours to eat.  I sometimes have a hard time falling back asleep though.  Mommy has been sleeping out in the living room with me so Daddy can get some sleep since he is going to work.  I am starting to show my weight gain too.  My face is starting to fill out and I have some fat rolls on my legs!  I am also starting to stretch my legs out more.  I took my first real bath in water, but didn't like it any better than the sponge baths.

Week 2: Growing like crazy!!!

This has been a really nice week.  Unfortunately, Daddy went back to work full-time and we missed him.  Mommy and I enjoyed hanging out together while he and Ellie were at school.  We got our family pictures taken by Mommy's friend Marion on Saturday.  I can't wait to share them!
I went on a couple of adventures this week too.  Mommy took me to HyVee with her and I slept the whole time.  We went on our first family walk and I slept the whole time.  Sounds like a pattern!  I went to the doctor this week for my two week check-up.  I now weigh 7 pounds, 12 ounces.  (And Mommy was worried I wasn't eating enough!)  Dr. Prica said I set a weight gain record!
My big sister Ellie really seems to love me.  She reads to me, talks to me, tries to calm me down when I am crying, and loves to come and give me hugs and kisses.  I know her name and her voice and love having her around.  I can't wait to give her hugs and kisses back someday!
I can't wait to see what the next week holds!

Week 1: Welcome to the World!

Emily Kathleen Boyer was born on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 12:41pm.  She weighed 6lbs7oz and was 19.5" long (just like her sister). We are very excited to have her finally with us.
How it all started...I was due on February 25th, but since my big sister was 2 weeks early, Mommy really thought I was going to be really early.  Well, 4 days early, at 3:17 AM, Mommy felt a contraction that felt stronger than the ones she had felt before.  She didn't want to wake Daddy, so she went in the bathroom to time her contractions.  When she was sure they were consistent, she took a shower, which did wake Daddy.  She smiled and asked him, "Are you ready to have a baby today?"  They called the grandmas around 5:00 and Nana Arden came over to take my big sister to preschool while Grandma Kathy brought Mommy to the hospital (Daddy forgot to get gas the night before!)  Mommy also knew her doctor was on call at 7:00, so she waited until he was there to come in.
When they got to the hospital, Mommy was already dilated to a 5-6 and 100% effaced.  The contractions got really strong, and Mommy almost bit Daddy!  (She says she didn't know what she was doing!)  Mommy got an epidural after that, and Dr. Jones broke her water.  She felt better after this and rested a little until it was time to push.  The labor and delivery nurse asked her to sit back, but Mommy knew that always made her feel sick, so she asked to sit up.  She pushed through about 3 contractions until Dr. Jones came in and asked her to lay back.  That did the trick!  She pushed through one more contraction and Dr. Jones told her to stop.  Well, she stopped, but I didn't!  I kept sliding out!  Dr. Jones didn't even have time to put on gloves and caught me bare-handed!  I was only put on Mommy's tummy for a few seconds.  I was pretty blue and Dr. Jones cut my cord (Daddy didn't even get the chance) and they took me away!  I was only blue for a little bit and was great after that.
It was great to meet my big sister Ellie!  I knew her voice right away.
Here are some things Mommy and Daddy noticed about me during my first week:
I have long feet and long fingers that I love to put in my mouth
I have a long torso and short legs (just like Daddy)
I do NOT like to be cold!
I have a little hair, but not much.  It may even be a reddish blonde color (which Daddy doesn't want!)
My dark blue-gray eyes like to focus on anything and it looks like I am really thinking
I usually only cry when I am cold, getting my diaper changed, or really hungry
I love to put things in my mouth (besides my fingers, clothes, blankets, etc.)
I love to be swaddled and snuggled
Here are a few pictures and videos of my journey so far.
